You should also consider using probiotics as those with chronic constipation often have an imbalance of bacteria in their gut. Rebalancing the gut with probiotics can help prevent constipation. You could try glucomannan which is a soluble fiber that you can get by eating shirataki noodles or through supplements. Taking magnesium citrate can also help. You can buy this over the counter. It's used to clean out the bowel before medical procedures so it works well, although taking too much can make your constipation worse.
